You’ve heard about the Crown Jewels.
You know it’s “the most famous castle in England.”
But here’s what nobody tells you about the Tower of London:
“The Crown Jewels queue can take 90 minutes in summer. But there’s a secret
entrance most visitors walk right past.”
I learned that the hard way.
My first visit: two hours in a shuffling line, hot, frustrated, and wondering why I
bothered.
Now? I get my clients through in under 15 minutes.
Here’s how. And what else you’re probably missing.

Section 1 – The “Real Talk” Insight

Here’s a specific problem travellers run into at the Tower of London:
The problem:
Most visitors arrive at 10 AM, join the longest line they see, rush through the Crown
Jewels in 3 minutes, and leave exhausted—having missed half the site.
The truth:
The Tower is not one attraction. It’s about 20.

  • The White Tower (armour, history, Henry VIII)
  • The Medieval Palace (bedrooms, chapels, river views)
  • The Bloody Tower (prison stories)

    Most people see the Jewels and leave. That’s like going to Paris, seeing the Eiffel
    Tower elevator line, and flying home.
    What I recommend instead:
    Arrive at 9 AM (opening time).
    Go directly to the Crown Jewels first—before the crowds.
    Then work backwards through the site.
    Take the free Yeoman Warder tour at 11 AM (it’s hilarious and genuinely historical).
    Plan for 3–4 hours minimum.
    Why this matters:
    You paid for the whole castle. Don’t see just one room.

Section 3 – One Thing I Almost Missed (But Won’t Let You Miss)

On my third visit to the Tower, I almost skipped the Chapel Royal of St. Peter ad
Vincula.
It’s small. It’s not on most maps. It’s tucked behind a gift shop.
Inside: the graves of Anne Boleyn, Lady Jane Grey, and Catherine Howard.
No crowds. No glass barriers. Just ancient stone, quiet light, and a profound sense
of history.
I stood there alone for ten minutes.

What I almost missed:

The most moving spot in the entire Tower—because it’s not marketed.
Don’t skip the chapel.
